About a year ago, I went in and got
myself a free consultation from Lasik MD. For some reason, I never did get my
hopes up with laser eye surgery. I considered myself as not qualified for a lot
of different reasons, like my eyesight is really bad and that my prescription
is constantly changing, or it would cost too much and I don't think I will be
able to afford it, or I am just simply not in the place of my life to be
getting these kinds of fancy surgery. I just did the consultation because my
boyfriend really wanted to go and it's free so why not!
Anyway, as it turns out, I AM A CANDIDATE! and most importantly the surgery was
somewhat affordable! sooo
i got on board with the idea of it.
I waited for a year, saved up
whatever I could to make it happen, but then at the last minute I booked a
consultation with King Lasik,
and I’m glad I did! Lasik MD got me into the whole idea but King Lasik eased
all of my worries and they made it so much easier for me. I was really thorn
choosing between the two companies, I am sure they’re both good but what really
made me choose King Lasik is that it is Doctor King who would be the one doing
my eye surgery, compared to Lasik MD that they gave me 4 resumes for their eye
surgeon and made me choose (I’m like what do I know?) I looked all over North
America of all the King Lasik clinic, he is the only surgeon for most of their
franchise. It just gave me so much confidence in what he does and I just know
I’ll be in good hands with him. typing
this at a later day with no glasses on and with a perfect vision says it so!
I didn’t really have any worries
about laser eye surgery as I know a lot of people had done it and as I said I
am with Dr. King, but then I had to google it and found out some of the horror
stories some people had about it including one of my coworker's. She had hers
done about a year ago and she was telling me that her eyes were sore for about
a week or even longer after the surgery, which they tell you that it will only
be a couple of days and you should be able to go back to your routine, and that
made me a little worried. In my mind it was like, what else have you been not telling
me?! haha yup went into
paranoid city about a couple of days before surgery so i booked an extra day
off just to be sure. Other than the freaking out a bit, I was really excited to
get this surgery done, to have my vision restored and to enjoy life without
glasses!

The last picture of me with glasses! |
Come surgery day, everything was
ready, I rested my eyes significantly, decided to take the Ativan before
surgery, posted that picture, browsed the internet as much as I can before my name
was called. In case you didn’t know, you have to be awake for a laser eye
surgery, but it would only take 2 minutes or so -not an
expression, literally true- I
chose an all laser-laser eye surgery. So how it worked is that there are 2
machines that I was put under, the first one would open my flaps, and then the
second one would correct my vision. For the first machine there was like a
round thing they put in my eye to keep it in place, the first machine I loved.
You’re only under the machine for 20 second per eye so 40 secs on one and then
40 secs in the other, anyway, the reason why I loved the first machine is
because the round thing that they used to keep my eye on place, like I swear
for the whole time I felt like I closed my eyes or moved it but of course it
didn’t. The second machine though, it was just tapes that held my eye in place
and I had to look directly at the light and every time I would get tired and
moved even for a little bit Dr. King would remind me to look at the light, so
that was a long 20 seconds. oh and btw. as if I hadn’t pointed it enough that
Dt. King had done a lot of these already. The whole time I was there under the
machines, one nurse would be counting down for me but the rest of them just
talking on how Dr. King’s flight was and stuff like that. Like nothing’s
happening you know, like your eyes
are completely open and this is such a big deal for you but not for us it’s
just a regular Friday but you
know in a really good way. tThe whole thing didn’t hurt at all. I didn’t feel a
single pain, the things that kept my eyes closed were uncomfortable but it’s
just a few seconds anyway.
After the surgery they tell you to
close your eyes as much as you can, like they want you to sleep but if you
can’t, just keep it close the entire time because that’s when the healing
happens they said. After surgery my brother picked me up and I had to wear this
really stupid eye protector. like the clinic is literally a block away from our
apartment, the perks of living downtown yay!, so we were walking I kept my eyes
closed the entire time and my brother lead the way, it was no big deal we do
this all the time we're weird that’s how we have fun sometimes if that’s not
the funniest thing yet, everyone thought I was blind so they were making this face
to my brother like he's a good man or whatever he could have gotten some
numbers if you know what I mean.
as soon as I reached home, I went to
bed and just closed my eyes as told. and it was boring. obviously I just had a
huge adrenaline rush from the surgery so there was just no way I could fall
asleep and if that wasn’t enough, as soon as my boyfriend got home he was like
"asan na ang bulag?" ~ "where's the blind person?" in a
really chirpy voice so I was just laughing my ass off. i know my sense of
humor, very very low and weird, either that or I’m just so in love with my
boyfriend hahahah xD -I think it’s my humor because I just laughed at that. oh
gosh anyway- my years and years of watching how I met your mother finally paid
off. I asked them to just have it on and since I have watched that for so many
times over and over again, it didn’t matter what episode I was on even if I was
just hearing it I can picture it in my mind. and it kept me entertained until I
fell asleep.
post op drops, some of them if
you’re asleep you don’t have to bother but some you’re really required to
follow the schedule. and it is really important! I slept for most of the night,
even then it was still painless, there was just really a point where my eye got
really itchy but other than that it was a-ok. the next morning, we have to be
back there at the clinic just for the next day post op visit. they just checked
to see that the flap closed properly and stuff like that. it was a quick visit
and everything was ok. there was like a list of things you can and can’t do
within a time period it was so detailed and so answers almost any question you
might have regarding on the dos and don’ts. it was perfect.
they did my surgery on Friday,
Saturday morning my vision was still not there yet, it’s clear and a lot better
before surgery but I feel like by Monday it was perfect. like I have
fluctuations in my vision from time to time bit overall the surgery went
perfectly - I am writing these 3 months later-
I want to take the opportunity to
raise awareness as well. I mean if you’re still reading this at this point you
must be really bored and have nothing else to do, so might as well give you
some information right? Laser eye surgery can be scary but I say it is totally
worth it. If you are in northern America, I would really suggest going with Dr.
King. He is really good at what he does and his team is just incredible. They
even have a financing option which is so
easy to apply for so money
won’t be an issue. There has been no reports of anyone getting blind on Lasik
so don't be scared! It is true though that your vision can regress, but they
have a package with like a lifetime guarantee and if you need it again they
will be able to do the surgery for free! The only thing to keep the guarantee
though is to have regular check-ups once every two years. so easy. It is better
to have it while you are young so you can enjoy your vision longer. and btw,
they didn't pay me to say this, I am just really happy with how mine went. so
there you go!
-till the next adventure!
