January 6, 2016 - Outdoor Adventure

For our first-well not technically but you know- adventure we booked the Outdoor AdventureTBH, I thought I had a clue of what we were in for but NOPE.

For most of the adventures we had to go to Maritima Pier for the meet-up and the best way (and also the cheapest) to get there is to take a bus for only 7.50 mxn (0.57 cad)and perfect timing because we had time to experiment. Our rep said it would take us about 45 minutes to get there, so if we take the bus an hour earlier wewould have enough time to go back kind of, if we get lost, missed our stop or whatever, so we did just that.  but she lied. it only took us 15 minutes or so to get there. Thank God the lady that we asked, though she had little English, told us to get off the bus.

So there we were at the Pier with lots of time to spare. (oohh rhyming!) so pictures!

When it was time to leave, a speedboat took us to where the tour is supposed to be. We were guessing the mountains or somewhere and we never understood how we were in the pier until we were there. The outdoor adventure is in a remote island with a little community in it. The guide even told us that only through a boat can you reach the island so the kids who live there would have to take a boat ride every day to go to school. I said this at the end of the tour but I'll say it this early on this post, if only I knew what we were in for, I wouldn't have agreed to it. Seeing how I survived the experience, Thank God I didn't know anything about it, I got to do it all and never have to do it again.

Getting back to the adventure, so a speed boat took us to an island. From the beach, a truck took us up, the truck alone was an adventure, we even passed a stream to get to where we were going. When we get to the main place they started strapping us with our gears and stuff. It was heavy! I think it was around 2 kilos. You'd think with all the gears I would somehow have a clue as to what is up but no. And if you are at all curious as to what I was expecting. It is this: yes, outdoor adventure with zip lines, and waterfall rappelling and a mule ride but you know, a very very sheltered version. A fool-proof one. Where even kids can do it. In my mind they just make it seem dangerous but it's not really going to be. Since they didn’t even bother to know if I had experience with some of the stuff. If it was that hard and dangerous, surely they wouldn’t have let a weakling like me join in right? Also, I was thinking there would be a way around it kind of, like you know a choice of if I don’t want to do it I could kind of go around it. but all of that NOPE NOPE NOPE. don’t get me wrong it was safe and all of the guys that was working there are total pros and seeing how I got out alive and without a scratch (a few bruises) should be a guarantee already.

As soon as we got to their headquarters, gave us the gears and then did a little pictorial. After the pictorial was a mini lesson on how to ride a mule and then after a few seconds we're up on the mule. YUP. that fast. My mule was not very friendly. It was however really smart but it didn’t like being told what to do. very much like me, I guess. after the mule ride up to the mountain, which I didn’t want to repeat again as for me at that point was really scary because, a mule is an animal. yes, it is trained but still you don’t know what’s going on in their head what if for some reason my mule decided to jump off the cliff, I just didn’t  want to risk it. So I asked if I had to do it again they said no, we would go down the mountain in another way. At this point of the trip I was happy and relieved but you saw the whole way down right? If only I knew what I was in for, I would have taken the mule ride back down. Next up the mule ride was a very long zip line. Ah yes, before the zip line was a lesson on how to do it. and to which before I was on they said, for the both of us, my friend and I, we just put our hands on top of the line and don’t make any friction as there is a possibility that we would stop in the middle and there would be no other way to go through it than to carry our body across it and I was not up for it. So instead of getting scared of falling or being scared that I was so high up, I was scared I was going to stop in the middle of it. Which I did but only like a  meter away from the landing area. I only pulled myself like 3 times to be able to reach him. After that very long zip line was 2 more after that. By then we asked if that was the last one and the guy said no, there are 8 zip lines and he said it... "didn't you read the brochure?" We were like THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE BROCHURE!!! hahaha but we were already deep in it we had no choice but to just do it!

Waterfall rappelling. yes, I have always wanted to do that. I wanted to go wall climbing just to experience rappelling down actually. But you know I thought they would have some marks as to where you should put your feet going down but NOPE. One guy showed us how to do it, a less than a minute lesson by the way, and it was our turn already. This is where I got my bruises actually since I actually lost balance in some part but gaining position back is so easy. Waterfall rappelling is so fun. I loved it. It was easier than I thought it would be, it was literally walking backwards only your foot is not on the ground just against the rock beside a waterfall. It was so cool that I got to do it.

I loved the parts where I don’t have to do anything at all. Like you know they would have to do all the work. I trust the staff completely for I know for sure they have done this a million of times. The one thing I noticed though, being in Canada for more than 3 years, over here people are so nice that if you do something good or just right they will tell you "good job" or "that was really great what you did just now" but for the whole time that I was doing the adventure, almost all of it for the first time and coming out of it alive, there was only once when I got a "good job" from the team. Not saying it's a bad thing for them but I guess I'm just pointing out how sheltered we are over here. ANYWAY.

The whole adventure was absolutely amazing. I can go on and on and on about it but I feel like this is too long already. But this is my story and this is the whole point of this. and besides if you really know me you would know that I am really talkative and I like to bore everyone with every single little detail-some can say half of it unnecessary-of the story. So my story goes on.

Upside down zip lining was insane. I seriously have an issue with that since even if I have to put my head upside down like say looking for something under the bed, I will get so dizzy and will blackout for a few seconds. The whole time during the adventure before every little activity I would hesitate for a few seconds but then you know push myself to do it but then on this one I was really going NOPENOPE NOPE. but you see, there was no other way than do it, so I did it begrudgingly hahaha I closed my eyes the whole time and the guide at the end had actually told me thrice to put my feet down and stuff because I was just frozen there like Spiderman.

The next part of the adventure I actually liked. The 2-person zip line. This one I have to do back to back with my friend. I loved it so much I actually want to do it again but I know I won’t be knowing I would have to do the other stuff again. :P and then It was the 3rd highest in the world water slide. I don’t actually know how I survived this one. It was so high of a drop and with my body weight It felt like idk something out of a movie with like a really exaggerated comparison. I just don’t know how I survived everything. It was adrenaline all the way, since sometimes I have to catch my breath just walking the samples from the outpatient lab to the main lab and that is just across the street. BUT THANK GOD, I had the opportunity to experience it. and get out of it alive.

After the whole adventure when we got back to where we started, there was free tortilla and a highly advertised quesadilla for just a little amount. The guy said that this was no ordinary quesadilla and he guessed exactly was on my mind taco bell hahaha. Confession bear. not a fan of Mexican food. But I was intrigued so I asked my friend if she was willing to share it with me. another confession I wish I didn’t share it with her. It was amazing!! so Mexican food isn’t wrong, it's just taco bell and all the other store I've been in.

After this day I was poofed. All day adrenaline that when it was wearing off I was just ready to fall asleep at the bus. but remember at the beginning of the post that this is our first day out, which means I can’t fall asleep just yet. It was really easy to know where to get off since the road becomes really bumpy as soon as we enter downtown as their road is made of cobblestones. So when we were going up and down in the bus, we just got off and there we were back in the hotel. And then it was day 3!

-till the next adventure!
